W1DM Mark-Laying Computers (MLCs), when combined with a hand-held GPS and a hand-bearing compass, ensure that course marks are set where they're supposed to be. They work great as a manual backup to MarkSetBots and Buoy Zone.
The MLCs are made with UV resistant engraving plastic. They require little to no maintenance - just an occasional rinse with fresh water. They are completely waterproof.
There are six, interchangeable inner dials - one for each type of course. Windward/leeward, 60/90 triangle, 60° trapezoid, 70° trapezoid, Opti trapezoid and ILCA trapezoid. The W/L dial has index marks to assist setting a gate 0.1 nm upwind of the starting line center.
MLCs are natural gifts for your RC members at special events. They can be customized with event logos, club burgees and names, only limited by the space available and design complexity. A standard MLC is only $15 (includes shipping); custom designs run from $20 to $25, depending on the design.
